Sponsored articles
A paid arrangement places content according to the publisher's commercial and editorial requirements. Sponsorship or advertising disclosures may apply. Payment is not independent endorsement.
Check the exact section, writing scope, review process and link terms. Paid links should be qualified appropriately under search platform policies.
Earned media
Independent journalists and editors choose what to cover based on their own judgment. An agency can research, prepare and pitch a story, but purchasing an agency service does not purchase an independent editorial decision.
Evaluate earned coverage by its relevance, sourcing and substance. Do not describe a paid placement as independently earned reporting.
Press release distribution
A release distributes an announcement supplied by a business or representative. It can appear on multiple sites through syndication. Repeated copies of one release are not the same as multiple independently reported articles.
Check the distribution package and reporting terms. Reach claims, syndication and publication do not automatically establish readership, rankings or buyer interest.

Does syndication create independent sources?
